DS Safety’s Mini Excavator Training program is designed to ensure operators develop the skills, awareness, and confidence to operate equipment safely in real-world conditions.

This course focuses on both technical operation and hazard recognition, ensuring operators are prepared for the environments they work in every day.

WHAT THIS TRAINING COVERS

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of:

  • Equipment components, controls, and functions
  • Pre-use inspections and hazard assessments
  • Safe excavation practices and positioning
  • Ground conditions and stability considerations
  • Underground and overhead hazard awareness (utilities, structures, etc.)
  • Safe digging techniques and load control
  • Working safely around workers, equipment, and structures
  • Equipment shutdown and securing procedures

HANDS-ON TRAINING

Practical training is a key component of this course. Participants will:

  • Operate equipment under instructor supervision
  • Practice safe digging, positioning, and movement
  • Receive real-time coaching and feedback
  • Build confidence operating in controlled scenarios

This ensures operators leave with the competency to safely operate equipment on-site, not just theoretical knowledge.

 CERTIFICATION & EVALUATION

Participants will:

  • Complete a knowledge assessment (for new operators)
  • Demonstrate practical competency

Upon successful completion, participants will receive proof of training.

COMPLIANCE

This training supports:

  • Ontario OHSA requirements for worker competency
  • Employer due diligence obligations
  • Industry best practices for excavation and equipment safety

Safe excavation starts with skilled operators who understand both the equipment and the risks.
